Just some thoughts about SOPA and PIPA…

 

I have to admit that I was really angry when FBI “took care” about Megaupload last week because it was a shocking new and it made me wonder: who the hell do they think they are? I mean I know it’s the FBI but why do we (ALL THE WORLD) have to let them get into our countries to take their so called “enemies”. They got into New Zealand to grab those guys because they are bitching about… online piracy? Isn’t that over reacting?

Now even when they say “Megaupload has nothing to do with SOPA and PIPA” it makes me wonder: then why are you so eager to get megaupload that way? And just think about this FBI broke human’s rights by taking down Megaupload because not all of the material that was hosted there was illegal, you know a lot of people used to use Megaupload to work, because it’s faster and because e-mail services don’t let you send huge files and what am I supposed to do if I have to send a file to Russia if I’m at the other side of the world? How many people hosted wedding photos or videos there to let their family in the other side of the world see them? And now if I come to think about the hundreds of users that paid for an account at Megaupload I come to wonder: are those FBI guys planning to give them a refund? Because that’s a lot of money for a service that FBI decided to take down… not the owners.

Now something’s really wrong in this world when “online piracy” should get more years in jail than murdering someone, you just think about some joke I read on twitter “2 guys talking at jail the first one says: Why are you here? The guy says: because I rapped a girl and shot his father to death. Then the guy asks: and why are you here? The other one answers: because I downloaded a movie/CD from the internet”      

Isn’t that stupid? Now I truly don’t believe that this is all because authors, musicians, producers, lyricist and actors are bitching about piracy because at least I know a thing about how great is that internet thing for them because you just have to deal with the fact that there are a lot of artists who are allowed to play in other countries because some “bad guys” grabbed their job from the internet “the illegal way” and they discovered that “those guys are talented” so then they started to ask for their CD’s/books/movies at stores and suddenly they got tons of fans because finally some people know about their job, so what’s the bitching about? I’m pretty convinced that this is all because of labels but why are you bitching when this piracy thing was all your fault from the beginning? Weren’t you the ones that got rid of vinyl albums because it was cheaper to record on CD’s? tell me how much piracy you found when you recorded on vinyl?

So what are we supposed to do when we find an artist that we like but we can’t get their movies/books/CD’s in our country? Well now as I see this thing I guess we have 2 options: pay tons of money that you wouldn’t pay if those  movies/books/CD’s were available at your country, or forget about the artist I mean if they don’t think it would be nice and important to make their work available for those losers in other countries then why the fuck would I give a damn about them?

Sad thing is that if I choose number 2 then those talented artists would have to face the fact that their work is going to be known only for millions of people instead of billions or more people.

  I know that many people get a lot of media from the internet without paying, but I guess that labels don’t know a thing about social behavior because all they do is weep on those “bad guys” that take media from the internet. Perhaps someone should tell them that right now many people from all the world are desperate about getting a job, paying bills, support their families and so on and we use money to do all that so we have priorities and if you ask me: would you pay $1000 for a CD that could cost less if you wouldn’t have to pay for the shipping or pay $1000 in food for the week? The answer would be I want the food, what about the people that don’t have enough money to pay for that media but they talk so much about it because it’s good and his/her friends that can pay-à buy that thing only because they are curious… guess what if you censor that’s not gonna happen because the first one wouldn’t find that media in the first place.

Wanna get rid of piracy? Then make those movies/books/CD’s available for everyone! Maths don’t lie! Think about what you’re doing:

You release a new CD and believe that $200 would be a reasonable price for the album (I’m gonna use Mexican pesos as example) because you have to pay for the studio/musicians/ photos/ make up/clothing/etc. and you find that 1000000 copies are sold, so $200 x 1000000 = $200000000… congratulations on this one! But that’s only getting the $200 that people who are willing to pay that would give you because not everybody has money to give you that amount. What about if you ask for less money? Don’t you guys think you would sell more? I mean if people are willing to pay $20 for piracy you could ask for $30 (or more) and if you sell 10000000 you will have $300000000 isn’t that more than $200000000 and I’m pretty sure you could sell more than 10000000 copies at that price…

I know a lot of people that like to listen to music from other countries and we just can’t get those CD’s in here unless we pay tons of money for them and we are not going to do that because our jobs don’t give us enough money to do so, you know? Call us poors if you like but we are not Paris Hilton we have regular jobs because this world is so sick that if you are a doctor/ teacher/architect/psychologist etc. you earn less money than those intelligent and well educated people from the TV like Kim Kardashian. So we rather pay taxes/food/services/clothing instead of your products. But let me tell you something: when we have the chance to see those artists live here in OUR country we pay to see them so they still get money from us you know?

But that’s just talking about what you call piracy because I should call you pirates when I buy an album that has only 2 or 3 good songs that of course you decided to release as singles to convince us all that it’s worthy and we feel like we’ve been abused. What about stores? You know what happens when you buy an original movie and you discover that something’s wrong with it like the menu is not working or it has some scratch that of course you didn’t make and it’s on your disc because the CD got loose in the box? You go to the store expecting them to change it because IT’S ORIGINAL for God’s sake and they tell you “I’m sorry I can’t change it nor give you a refund” is that cool? I know some Pirates that change you your movie when you tell them it’s broken. And also if you record your own movie at home and discover it’s broken you can always work on it to fix it. So who’s the bad guy?

And  what can we do with original broken movies?? Smile like idiots and say “thanks I wanted to watch it… there goes part of  my salary”

Now let’s return to human rights  and PIPA… isn’t privacy a right? Now you tell me that some guys (who I don’t know, and are not from my country and don’t speak my language and don’t have to deal with what I have to deal) want to record everything I do on my computer just because their lives are so pathetic that they have to fill the missing pieces by bugging others and I may ask to my countrymen and every single men/women out there: are you OK with it? Are you OK with the fact that some crazy Americans want to feel like they own the world and they have the right to find out things about people that certainly are out of their jurisdiction? Are the governments from other countries so dumb that they will let USA to get in their jurisdiction?

I surely believe that those SOPA and PIPA  will kill the industry/internet/privacy/culture/human rights if we let them so. Science will fail too if we agree with that “file servers” breakdown because many investigations on health/politics/nature/environment/etc. are being managed by people that travel a lot and that have to work with people from all the world and they are not going to waste their time by sending packages with fedex because time is money and science is running against time all the time so they share files using those servers, and if they take them down how are they gonna do that job?

At this rate I guess I don’t have to say that I’m completely against those “laws” because I think they are all about censorship and it’s an assault against culture, art, human rights and knowledge, and if we already have ignorance issues I don’t want to see what’s it gonna be if they play that dirty trick on us.

And yeah I wrote this in English because I wanted to be understood if some of those wackos comes here.
